The Pathways is the structure of our awards scheme which develops skills and knowledge of the sports and includes areas of learning that develop life long skills. It is colour coded and starts with the Green Level then Blue, Red and finally Horizons. Pathways sessions are set to develop skills whilst young people gain experience in outdoor activities. Beginners and those developing basic skills take part in Green & Blue sessions on Wednesdays. Intermediate and advanced level participants take part in Red & Horizons sessions on Thursdays. Multi Level activities take part on Sundays. Girls Can activities take place on Wednesday evenings – you need to have registered with us by email and completed our parent consent form.
We have put together a training programme for those interested in developing 3 Star paddlesport & Leadership skills, training for sailing and helming as well as power boat training. This takes place on Wednesday evening/Sunday’s throughout the autumn and winter programme.
Leadership Programme
Prospective Leaders wanting to enrol on our new Leadership programme should speak to staff about pre-requisites and how to get involved. Please see the programme below for full details.
We have a set of Values which we encourage young people to learn about and adopt: Respect, Friendship and Confidence are key elements of personal progression whilst Equality and Humility are expected as a youth member. Motivation is important as the activities require attention and focus. Your success is important to us and there is a structure for you to Achieve in a relaxed and fun way which develops Courage and the ability to succeed. As you progress you will begin to develop Leadership skills, and then be able to help others to learn.
Our bodies primarily work with instruction from our brain. When we have a positive attitude it can put us in a better position to perform in anything. So even if you are worried or nervous it is even more important to believe you can. Therefore if you say “I Can” before attempting things you will have a much higher ability to succeed. So when working with young people we develop this approach as there is a much higher level of success in many areas.
Please check the information on the trips section for the specific trip you are interested in so that you are prepared for that day/week. Most importantly book and pay for your place in advance we no longer take payment on the day of the trip and therefore you will not be able to attend.
Please see the Events section below for holiday projects, residentials and special event dates throughout the year ahead.
You must bring an appropriate set of clothes (bottoms & top) for Adventure activities including a base layer, mid layer and waterproof depending on the weather. The Centre will provide specialist clothing for water based sessions such as water shedding salopettes and cagoule and mid layers and waterproof jackets for trips where possible.
You will need to have a completed consent form to take part in the activities, the link to the online form will be sent to parents when a place on the programme is offered. The form must be completed by a parent or legal guardian. We can not accept forms filled in by any other adults including relatives.
Apart from our Pathways Awards and National Governing Body achievements our main goal is for you to become the best person you can be. Outdoor activities is a great way in enabling this as it has so many challenges that stretch and strengthen you as a person. These along with our Values will develop your personal skills which you need to have a fulfilling life.
