Fundraising Challenges

i Sep 19th No Comments by

Over the last couple of years companies, parents, adult club members and friends of the Centre have undertaken rowing challenges on the River Thames to help in our fundraising efforts to maintain and grow the Centre’s youth provision and we are incredibly grateful for all the efforts of those who have taken part.

These challenges help us to buy new equipment and subsidise our charges to young people. A weekly £4 youth club place costs the Centre approximately £18 in real terms when operating costs are taken into account. Examples of the costs of replacing equipment such as buoyancy aids and kayaks can be seen here on our giving page.

Be part of the Challenge Team for 2024!

Looking for a challenge in 2024? Join us on one of our fundraising events, or get together with colleagues to plan your own challenge. Please drop us an email to info@shadwell-basin.org.uk if you’re interested in any of the events below, or have ideas for your own event. Plans for 2024 include:

Thames Barrier Challenge

Row from Shadwell past Greenwich and the O2 Dome, before going through the Thames Flood Barrier and returning after a well deserved lunch on this 14 mile challenge.

River Thames Marathon

Row 26.2 miles on the Thames, from Tower Bridge to Chiswick and back, on this marathon day out! See all the sights of London from the water and stop for lunch at the historic Ship Inn, famous for being on the finish line of the Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race.

Join the team for the Great River Race

This annual race on the Thames for traditional craft attracts teams from all over the world. Over 300 teams usually take part in the 21.6 mile race, making the event a fantastic spectacle on the river every year. The race takes place in September and the course goes from Millwall in the east across to Richmond in the west, travelling past famous London bridges and landmarks. We will be entering teams in the race once again in 2024, so come and be part of this amazing event.
